Amen!

I took this cartoon from a friend's facebook profile, but I agree wholeheartedly! Way to go to all the mom's who chose to breastfeed despite the stares and awkward comments and way to go to all the mom's who decided not to breastfeed despite pressure from everyone thinking you should. We as mom's feel enough pressure thinking that we are somehow not good enough, not doing enough for our kids, the last thing we need is more guilt! Have a great weekend to all the fantastic mom's out there!

We, as humans, are the only mammal that would ever be crazy enough to look down on the natural, normal, healthy feeding of our own kind. Much to our detriment.

In her new chapter on nipplephobia in the United States, Ina May Gaskin asks, "In what species besides our own would adult males or females harass a mother in the act of nourishing her young? Such behavior would not occur to any other creature."

I agree with her next observation: "I find this kind of behavior neurotic at best, but when it represents the norm for millions of people, I think we have reached the realm of near-psychosis - mass mental illness. If we humans watched adult birds diving and pecking at mother birds as they attempted to stuff worms and insects into the gaping beaks of their chicks, we would think we were watching a horror movie about birds gone mad. It IS horrible to see adults behaving in an infantile way that doesn't nurture the generations to come."

Ha! Mr. Hoke, your comment is even more funny than the actual cartoon! They can replace the ash trays at the tables with breast pumps.
